in Thailand 2026

Save these before you need them. The number you dial in the first 30 seconds matters.

Save 1155 in your phone before anything else. It is the single number every expat in Thailand should have memorised.

1155Tourist PolicePrimary

24/7 English-speaking assistance. Your primary contact for any incident involving foreigners. Staff are trained to work with non-Thai speakers.

191Thai Police

General police emergency. English not guaranteed — 1155 is usually better for expats. Use for serious crimes when Tourist Police are unavailable.

1669EMS / Ambulance

National medical emergency dispatch. Response times vary widely — private hospitals can often send faster. Give your location clearly.

199Fire Brigade

National fire and rescue services. For minor fires, do not attempt to fight them alone — get out and call immediately.

1.Call 1669 or go directly to the nearest private hospital emergency room.
2.If conscious and able, Bumrungrad or Bangkok Hospital are preferred by expats.
3.Call your health insurance provider's emergency line simultaneously.
4.Take a photo of any medicine packaging or visible injuries before treatment.
5.Do not sign anything without reading it — hospitals may require large deposits upfront.

1.Remain calm. Raising your voice or showing anger will make the situation worse.
2.Call 1155 (Tourist Police) first — they speak English and understand foreigner situations.
3.Do not argue your legal position at the scene. Document everything.
4.Photograph the scene, any vehicles, and the officers' badge numbers if visible.
5.Contact your embassy if detained. You have the right to contact them.
